Our Story
Incorporated by the Cooperative Societies Act, 2001, the Bangladesh Parjatan Shilpo Samabay Samity Limited (PSSSL) is an association of entrepreneurs and professionals in the country’s tourism industry. It is the first ever tourism-related organization to register with the Directorate of Cooperatives.
The concerned division of the Department of Cooperatives (DOC) under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives oversees and regulates the PSSSL’s operations.
The registration of PSSSL was started in the Banani, Gulshan, and Tejgaon zones of the capital, Dhaka, and it would eventually be extended throughout the entire country. According to the regulation, all activities are managed by an elected nine-member executive committee. While PSSSL began with about sixty founding members, there is a plan to induct a number of promising, generous, and like-minded new members very soon.
As all members have been paying a set amount of the subscription fee every month, the generated funds have already been invested in several short-term profit-oriented ventures with satisfactory returns. Given that these are members’ precious deposits, the investing process is chosen with, at the very least, care and discernment. The members of the Executive Committee get together over breakfast meetings three or four times a month to discuss the ongoing tasks and generate ideas for the future.
Amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, a group of tourism entrepreneurs devised a plan to establish this association in their regular online and seldom-in-person meetings. Most of them first made their efforts as volunteers in the beginning, providing guidance and retaining the organizational operations and legal framework in place. In the context of their contribution, PSSSL is now progressively emerging as a significant and valuable resource platform.
Through the combined power of these members, several problems can be resolved, and the business network can grow by reaching out and extending a helping hand to one another.
Above all, this relationship has developed into a close-knit family. Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go.
